At the Lighthouse

We finished our first week as hosts at the Heceta Head Lighthouse on the Oregon Coast.

Ken and his wife Karen are with us today. He is in the background starting a tour. Karen is taking the picture. Our schedule each week is Saturday through Tuesday from 10:30 to 2:00. Next week will be the same days only our time is 2:00 until 5:3o in the afternoon.

I have had people from Hawaii, Connecticut. Canada, and Germany and of course many other states. There was even a family from Lawerence, KS!

At the end of our day today i was ready to call it a day. The week was very rewarding and I am looking forward to next week but for now I am looking forward to our days off.

Our morning started out kind of slow today so I was able to take pictures from the lighthouse grounds.

This next picture I was trying to give you an idea of all the seagulls. The only thing I was not able to capture was all the noise they make.

Mornings are often windy, cool and overcast. I have certainly learned how to layer. By the end of our shift I am in my long sleeved shirt and the volunteer's vest.

This last picture I took coming from the lighthouse. I was told these beaches are made to enjoy by walking them. The water is too cold to swim. Of course you see kids walking to the edge for the water but never going all the way in.
